Ink Effusion

Project Type: Animation

Communications Lab was a class designed to expose us to the many different media and software and tools that are used in this rather vaguely defined field of "new media". One of our short assignments was to make a 1-minute animation of some sort in AfterEffects.

Koo is Korean, and we're both very inspired by traditional Asian art, so we wanted to do a piece inspired by Chinese ink brush paintings. Koo did a lot of drawings in Illustrator using minimal brush strokes, and I then put these into AfterEffects, using masks to simulate the ink being drawn onto a rice paper canvas. We then set the animation to a song by The Shanghai Restoration Project.
