Turn Down the Noise

During the summer of 2009, I worked as a web design intern on Khalid El-Arini and Gaurav Veda’s Ph.D research project codenamed “Turning Down the Noise in the Blogosphere” under advisor Carlos Guestrin in the Machine Learning Department at Carnegie Mellon. Khalid and Gaurav have developed an algorithm for a blog aggregator that uses user feedback to gradually tailor its selection of posts to the user’s interests.

I worked together with Sam Hopkins, a student at the University of New Mexico, to make this into a fully functional website that may one day become more popular than Google Blog Search and Yahoo! Buzz. I focused on the visual/interface design and front-end development, while Sam took care of the back-end.
